After ten years of reliable daily driving, I am parting with my Mk1 Focus. It is a fantastic runner that has been well-maintained mechanically. This would make an ideal project for an enthusiast or a solid, cheap runaround for someone handy with a wrench.Current Status & ReliabilityIn Use: The car is currently off the road and hasn’t been driven for a month.Maintenance: To keep everything in top shape, it is started twice a week and brought up to temperature.Reliability: It starts first time, every time, and pulls exactly as it should.MOT: Valid until October 2026.Major Work Done (Jan–April 2025)The “big” mechanical jobs have already been tackled:New Cambelt fitted (Jan 2025).New Clutch fitted (Jan 2025).Rear brakes serviced (April 2025); front discs are in good condition with no lips.Condition Overview (Full Transparency)Mechanical & Interior:Dashboard: The speedometer needle occasionally drops to zero for a few moments before springing back to life. This is a very common, known quirk of the Mk1 Focus.Suspension/Steering: Some creaking from the front suspension on bumpy roads and a click from the steering rack on certain turns.Locks: Central locking works via the driver’s door (button on key currently inoperative). Bonnet barrel is sticky (common Mk1 quirk).Interior: Minor lacquer peel on the center console; rear-view mirror currently missing.Bodywork & Exterior:The “Mk1 Leak”: There is water ingress in the rear quarters of the boot. In my attempts to fix this, I have siliconed around small holes under the rear lights and previously sealed the panels behind the bumper. This held for two years, but the seal likely needs a fresh application now.Cosmetics: Surface rust on front arches (worst on front right); lacquer peel on the front right bumper; scratch on the rear bumper from a low wall.General: Minor age-related car park marks and a small dent on the boot. Headlights would benefit from a polish.History & PaperworkFull Ford Service History from 2004–2015.Self-serviced regularly thereafter. While I do not have the physical receipts for the 2025 work (Cambelt/Clutch), the drive quality and visual condition of the parts reflect the maintenance.Summary: A mechanically strong Mk1 with the major service items (Clutch/Belt) recently ticked off. With a little TLC on the bodywork and seals, this will be a brilliant example of a modern classic. Please get in touch for further information or to arrange a viewing.
