Year old Leisure battery, water tank inside cabin ensuring it never freezes, hot and cold water, toilet and shower, sink and cooker top, Fridge (hasn’t worked in years, I add ice pack and use it as a larder) TV ariel fitted by previous owner (un-used, I watch laptop movies) 3 pin (UK) sockets.
Toilet is the usual cartridge type, which is spotlessly clean and all seals cleaned and serviced.Heating is blower type, but I’ve never camped in places cold enough to use it. Oil and Air filter changed annually. Have used engine conditioner such as Extra Lube ZX1 (https://www.team-zx1.com/extralube-zx1-micro-oil) and fuel conditioners such as (https://www.hydra-int.com/diesel-fuel.html). These keep the engine tip top and the fuel clean, so there is NO Black Billowing smoke from the exhaust, even if she is now getting on. Starts first time, every time!! Whether in snow, rain or heat. Never, ever let me down.
The engine is almost indestructible. No glo plugs that need changing, no Ad-Blue required, no complicated DPF filters, no sensors and no computers that go expensively wrong. Any mechanic can work on these things because they are older well known engines.
I have used her for Camping, pic-nics, pull-up for a cuppa and at times my daily driver. Hasn’t let me down … well once … that was my fault … I hadn’t tightened the fuel filter properly when I changed it The last long run was France was a couple of years ago (following the coast in Normandy and Brittainy) a couple of years back and she didn’t miss a beat (apart from the fuel filter … quick twist … sorted) About 1 hour from Spain I turned back due to lack of money. I would have absolute confidence that she would do the same journey this year. I don’t think I have ever felt so confident about a Motorhome’s ability. Registered in 1994, HIG is not a spring-chicken and will get a bit flat after 65, however, she’s not slow off the mark and can keep up with traffic. But Motorhomes are not built for speed but for comfort, which is why we don’t see them whizzing around the Nürburgring. First gear can be sticky sometimes, but then again it was the first day I bought her. The other gears smooth – all the way up to 5th. Originally she was going to be a ‘stop-gap’ Camper, but found her so comfortable to drive and cheap to keep … and very reliable that 11/12 years later I still have her. I’m only selling now because I bought a younger model of Camper. She’s NOT a dirty, old, stinking, oil burner. HIG is clean inside … unlike when I purchased her. All the covers and curtains were stripped and cleaned and foam steamed clean. Ceiling to doors – all cleaned, and kept that way so no nasty niffs. As a back-pain sufferer I have appreciated the comfort of the front Captain seats! FAR, FAR more comfortable than my newer German made (Dethleffs) Camper! I had considered a Camper with those spring-seats when I bought HIG … didn’t need them although I have thought about swapping HIG’s seats for my newer Camper’s rock hard ones. You can sit in HIG all day if needs be
The bed above the Cab is very comfortable for me (and where I slept) it has two windows, one which opens and has screens. That might not feel like a big deal … until you sleep in it if you’re claustrophobic or you like fresh air as you sleep. There are some non-mechanical jobs which will need attention, such as above the cabin area and door. Rust worm hasn’t gone all the way through, it just needs sanding, priming and painting etc. Although, under the doors (which usually go first) is rust free! I have washed then waxed the Camper as often as I did my Car. There is a Rear Camera which acts as a rear-view mirror … but I think there’s a certain law at work. Just before selling her, it has gone kaput. I’m not a mechanic nor electrician … I can buy additives and wax bodywork – that’s my limit.
There is extra storage on top of the Camper via the Aluminium Frame. Never used it, but there’s a lot of extra space.Side lockers are also accessed from the inside too.Lovely big opening light midway down the van and one in the bathroom. All windows have fly screen and window blinds. So please don’t rely on the photo’s. Come and see her for yourself. Feel free to ask any questions. … so come and have a look This is an ideal first time Camper as the cost to run is fairly low as Campers go, it’s clean and RELIABLE and you won’t be facing the complicated problems that so many modern cars, Vans and Camper suffer with. I feel confident selling this to families. If you treat her right, HIG will be going for decades. Fuel Up – Water Up – Food Up … and away you go. I really don’t like writing this part … but I have had folks turn up and do this before …
If you want to come and look round, please ensure it’s because there is a good chance you will buy it and not because you’re bored one rainy afternoon.
Also, if you BUY then you BUY. It’s not easy to click ‘BUY’ by mistake anymore folks 🙂 Please, be considerate. Contact me with your questions. Thanks NB I have moved house and cannot find the file I keep all the MOT’s and receipts and yes, I have searched. I have kept them all together, but where they have gone I don’t know. If I find them, I will forward them to the new buyer. They’re only receipts for smaller amounts and for filters and oil which I kept to remind me when they were done.
Forgot that the electric steps are also in need of attention. I haven’t used them for a couple of years because I use the front for entrance and exit. It can only be a wire loose or something … but another last minute glitch. Full disclosure for honesty.
