1994 Ford Escort Ghia Si Estate
Welcome to my auction for a super rare Escort estate, which is still available as 6xzqf-8 made a last minute bid and then immediately requested to cancel it. This is despite my plea at the bottom of the listing to only bid if you wanted it. However, I have accepted to cancel it as he did get in touch.
So here we go again! You’re probably thinking – and so what? Well, this is the rarest model trim of Escort left in existence outside of any dealer special editions. Available only between September and December 1994, 350 examples were shipped to the UK, of which just 3 remain. This is nothing like the later Mk6 Si estate, which was a bit soft.
The Ghia Si boasts:Full sports interior from the RS2000, trimmed into a unique ‘Jigsaw’ blue fabric cloth (which is incredibly comfortable!)RS2000 front suspension (rear is standard estate)XR3i engine (1.8 litre Zetec)XR3i gearboxXR3i front discsRS2000 dashRS Cosworth steering wheelRS Cosworth 2007 RDS Radio Cassette player
The Ghia Si was also available in hatchback form, benefitting from full leather and wood – but not the RS/XR3i underpinnings and engine.
One of these estates sold recently at auction for £6,500 (although was in pristine condition with just 35k on the clock!). This and the other remaining example are in Aegean Blue. The example for sale today is the only remaining Alberto Green.
This example – affectionally known as ‘Les’ – was shown at the Classic Restoration Show at the NEC in 2022 (and featured on the YouTube channels by HubNut and Furious Driving), and previously to that, was the subject of the TV show ‘Repair Lot’, where some of the bodywork and interior were restored (it’s still available on Sky and U TV, S1, E4, to watch!).
As with any 30-odd year old car, there are some things that will need TLC for the new owner, namely:Patch of bodywork on the front wing needs painting (paint is supplied in the correct colour and spec, ready to be applied – cost a small fortune!)Rear arches need painting as wellHeadliner needs to be replacedSome small scratches and dents will need rectifying Speedo has stopped working (everything else works)Airbag light on due to a loose sensor under the driver’s seat – not an MOT failure until the mid-00s cars onwardsSome loose trim in the boot that needs refitting and rear wiper inoperable Radio Cassette not plugged in Slight blow in the middle of the exhaustCAT C in 2009 for a rear door (which must have been repaired to a high standard, but is recorded on the logbook)Now an even shorter MOT (9 March – but it went through last year with no advisories and has only done 200 miles since. I genuinely have no time to get another one in the next fortnight owing to work commitments).However, there are plenty of good things about Les, namely!:Rarest 1990s Escort available Is basically an XR3i estate – better handling than the hatchback equivalent Runs and drives fine with no known issuesStrong engine – done 102,700 miles from newBrand new x4 tyres at £400Brand new battery at £100Recent full service, brakes, pads, and shoes at £500All handbooks presentSome service history tooTV and YouTube featured car!I’m selling Les as I have two other projects on the go – an 80s VW Polo bread van called Polly, and Teddy the Triumph, a 9000 mile Acclaim CD – and something has to give!
Hopefully with some TLC, Les can look his best again. It would be great for it to be finished and displayed at FOTU!
